Welcome to the website of the Montague County Appraisal District. Within this site you will find general information about the District and the ad valorem property tax system in Texas, as well as information regarding specific properties within the district. The District strictly adheres to the Texas Property Tax Code to provide equality and accurate assessments for its constituents and tax base.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide accurate property assessments to facilitate the local funding for our county, schools, cities, and other districts that derive budgets and other operating expenses from local property values.

Reappraisal Notices were mailed in May 2024.

31.02(g) Under the Texas Tax Code the failure to send or receive a tax bill does not affect the validity of the tax, the penalty, the interest, or the date due

EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2013 Homestead Exemption Application Requirements Requires a copy of the applicant’s driver’s license or state-issued personal identification to the claimed exemption in the applicant’s name. The address on the driver’s license or state-issued personal identification must correspond with the address of the property for which the exemption is being applied.

Properties no longer qualifying for Exemptions will be mailed letters in January 2025.

Montague County Tax Appraisal District is currently seeking qualified applicants to serve on the Appraisal Review Board (ARB). The ARB is a citizen board charged with hearing property owner protests that cannot be resolved informally. The ARB normally meets beginning the middle of May (15th) and concludes on or before the end of July (25th) with additional meetings being called as needed. Agricultural and Homestead Exemptions forms will be mailed out in January. The application deadline is April 30, 2025.

July 1 taxes not paid will incur an additional 20% attorneys fee.

Business Personal Property Rendition are due April 15, 2025 unless an extension was filed.
