Welcome to the website of the Montague County Appraisal District. Within this site you will find general information about the District and the ad valorem property tax system in Texas, as well as information regarding specific properties within the district. The District strictly adheres to the Texas Property Tax Code to provide equality and accurate assessments for its constituents and tax base.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide accurate property assessments to facilitate the local funding for our county, schools, cities, and other districts that derive budgets and other operating expenses from local property values.

31.02(g) Under the Texas Tax Code the failure to send or receive a tax bill does not affect the validity of the tax, the penalty, the interest, or the date due

EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2013 Homestead Exemption Application Requirements Requires a copy of the applicant’s driver’s license or state-issued personal identification to the claimed exemption in the applicant’s name. The address on the driver’s license or state-issued personal identification must correspond with the address of the property for which the exemption is being applied.

The Montague CAD will be closed: Thursday & Friday, December 24 & 25, 2022 Christmas; Friday, January 3, 2022, New Year's; Monday, January 17, 2022, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; Monday, February 21, 2022, President's Day; Friday, April 15, 2022, Good Friday; Monday, May 30, 2022, Memorial Day; Monday, July 4, 2022, Independence Day; Monday, September 5, 2022, Labor Day; Friday, November 11, 2022, Veteran's Day; Thursday & Friday, November 25 & 26, 2022, Thanksgiving; Friday & Monday, December 23 & 26, 20...

Properties no longer qualifying for Exemptions will be mailed letters in January 2023

Taxes Become Delinquent February 1.

Agricultural and Homestead Exemptions forms will be mailed out in January the application deadline is April 30, 2022

Business Personal Property Rendition were mailed in November 2022. 2023 Real & Business Personal Property Notices were sent on April 15, 2023. Renditions not turned in will be assessed a penalty.

July 1 taxes not paid will incur an additional 20% attorneys fee.
